0:00 Arrival: First the plan, then the model sticker
The technician explains today’s job, then photographs where the machine stands, its front, the energy label and the model sticker, and starts only when they match your booking.
-
0:10 Test run: Before cleaning, a test run
The shaft and the door lock are checked, the water height is tested on cotton 60°C, then the draining; all of it is filmed. If the machine already has a problem, you hear about it before we start.
- Is the shaft broken or out of line?
- Which kind of door lock
- Water height on cotton 60°C
- Does it drain normally?
-
0:20 Endoscope: The drum looks clean. The back is where the dirt is
An endoscope on the technician’s phone goes in through the drum holes, filming slowly from 3 o’clock round to 9. You watch on the phone how much black sludge sits behind the drum.
-
0:25 Door seal: Photograph the door seal, check 12 o’clock too
Mould usually sits in rings inside the seal’s fold. The technician photographs 6, 3 and 9 o’clock, and tells you whether it needs mould removal.
A hole at 12 o’clock? With a hole there, steam can reach the panel and control board while cleaning, so it is checked before any water goes in; if there is one, we stop and explain.
-
0:30 High-concentration active oxygen: Water at 60°C, then the active oxygen
Cotton at 60°C fills the drum; at the right level the active oxygen goes in and soaks for 15 minutes, longer if the machine is very dirty.
Some models: wait for the pump They pump out briefly right after filling. The technician waits for that before adding the powder, so it isn’t pushed into the sump hose, trapping air and stopping the drain.
-
Close up · what active oxygen is: Down to the molecules: oxygen locked in a crystal
Powdered active oxygen is usually a crystal of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) and sodium carbonate (soda). In warm water the crystal comes apart and the hydrogen peroxide is set free to work.
Hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) Two oxygens holding hands, a hydrogen at each end, shaped like a half-open book.
-
How it works on dirt: It oxidises the dirt and loosens grease
The black sludge is a film of skin oil, detergent and softener residue, lint and bacteria. In warm alkaline water, hydrogen peroxide oxidises this organic dirt so it softens and breaks up; the soda helps loosen grease and soften the water.
- H₂O₂ ⇌ H⁺ + HOO⁻: In alkaline water a little of it becomes the perhydroxyl ion, which helps oxidise dirt and stains
- 2 H₂O₂ → 2 H₂O + O₂↑: Once used, it breaks down into water and oxygen: tiny bubbles
-
For people: No chlorine. It breaks down after use
Active oxygen is not bleach and has no sharp chlorine smell. Hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen; the soda stays dissolved and is rinsed away.
- You never touch the powder: The technician adds it with gloves and goggles
- Never above 70°C: To protect the machine’s seals
- Three clear-water rinses: Then we suggest two empty runs, to leave as little behind as possible
-
0:35 Detergent drawer: While it soaks, the drawer comes out
Press the release tab and the whole drawer comes out; the siphon cap comes off too, and the bay it sits in is cleaned as well. A photo before and one after, so you can compare.
-
0:45 Foam promoter: Add the foam promoter, the dirt floats out
After 15 minutes, the foam promoter goes in for 5 more. The foam helps water into the softened dirt, wraps the loose flakes and lifts them, ready for the jet.
“High-concentration active oxygen and a foam promoter soak it, and the dirt slowly floats out.”
-
0:50 Setting up: Tap to pressure washer, connected
The pressure washer uses your own tap water: a hose from the tap to the washer, then a high-pressure hose to the wand. The washing machine isn’t moved; it is all done where it stands.
-
0:55 Detergent hose · water level: Flush the detergent hose, keep the water below the door seal
The detergent hose runs from the drawer down to the tub; softener and residue build up and block it, so the jet clears it too. All the while, the water stays below the door seal.
Why? There’s a float in the sump hose If the water rises past the door seal, the float where the sump hose joins the tub lifts, and the machine stops with an error. Steam can also reach the panel and control board.
-
1:00 High-pressure jet · the key step: Through the holes, the sludge is blasted off
The wand goes into the drum, close to the holes. The sludge mostly sits low, from 4 to 8 o’clock, where the drum has stood in water for years; the top is sprayed too, but the work is at the bottom. Stubborn spots get a focused jet until they break.
-
1:05 Three rinses: Rinse while draining, each time clearer
Sludge and dirty water leave from the bottom of the tub through the sump hose and the drain pump. Three rinses; each one drains clearer.
-
1:25 Check: Look again, rinse again if needed
The endoscope goes back in through the holes. Any dirt left gets rinsed again until it is gone; models with very small holes take longer.
-
1:30 Add-on: Door seal mould removal, your choice
After the door seal photos in step 4, the technician tells you how much mould there is. Choose the add-on and the surface and folds are treated with mould remover, about 15 more minutes, with photos before and after.
-
1:55 Done: Rinsed until clear, then we finish
A photo of the clear water, then the endoscope films once more after draining, to compare with the first video: shining steel behind the drum again.
- Clear-water photo
- After-cleaning endoscope video
- We suggest two empty runs
-
Prices: Prices, upfront
Which group your machine is in, Fixes Baby can tell you right away.
- Most models HK$880: Call-out fee included, about two hours
- Special models HK$1,180: Very small drum holes: a longer soak and rinse
- Same machine again within a year −HK$200: Cleaned by us in the last year
- Add-on · door seal mould removal +HK$300: About 15 more minutes
What counts as a special model?
- Very small drum holes: the active oxygen soaks 20 to 25 minutes instead of 15, and it takes more than three rinses
- Extra-large or non-standard models: our quote specialist confirms the price
Not cleaned Japanese-style washers (their build can’t be cleaned without taking them apart) and Miele. We clean front loaders and top loaders.
